Education 11-14

Getting Started in Years 7 to 9

Everyone is both excited and scared about starting secondary school - studying new subjects, making new friends and finding your way around a new school - but you will get lots of support to help you settle in.

Year 7 is also a great time to start thinking about your future and learning more about the world of work. Thinking about what career you might like to do, and then what you need in terms of experience, education, training and qualifications to get there, can help you begin to plan what subjects you need to take later on.

On this page you can find information on:

  • learning and career planning
  • choosing subjects to study in Years 10 and 11, and how this may affect your future career options.

You will have lots of help from your teachers in school. It's also a good idea to chat about your options with family members.
