Finding jobs and apprenticeships

Help with finding a job or apprenticeship

Moving from school or college into work is a big step. Help is available if you:

  • need support with finding and applying for jobs or apprenticeships
  • are not sure what to include on your cv
  • are worried about starting a job or apprenticeship
  • don’t like what you are doing now and want to change direction
  • are not in employment, education or training.

If you are at school, ask to see your careers adviser or your teacher. If you are no longer at school, the Progress Team is a good place to start, they can give you advice on education, employment or training. Call 0207 527 7031 or email progress@islington.gov.uk

The advisers will know about the choices open to you. They will have ideas about how you can improve your chances of being successful and support you in your decision making.

They can help you to:

  • make some decisions about what to do next
  • get back into learning – gradually if that’s what you want
  • try new work skills or courses
  • improve the basic skills that employers and colleges look for, such as everyday English and maths and the ability to work well with people
  • look for jobs and courses
  • improve your skills to make good applications and do well at interviews
  • improve your self-confidence.

  • Support in English and maths up to Level 2
  • One-to-one support into education, a traineeship or apprenticeship, or employment
  • Up to 100 hours of work experience or volunteering
  • Help to access other support services
