How to refer or apply

The Centre is popular and prioritises children on whether the child: is at risk or in need; has special educational needs; lives in Islington; lives close to the nursery; is the right age for the space available; has parents who are working or studying full-time.

You can apply for a place at a children’s centre by either collecting an application form from the centre or phoning and asking for one to be emailed to you. You can then return it in person or email back. If your child is offered a place, an admissions meeting will be arranged where you can bring in the relevant paperwork (proof of address etc) and the administrator will help you with the forms that need to be signed.

Centres are not offering tours at this time but you can see the rooms through a virtual tour and/or photo leaflets. If you would like any more information about protective measures in place at the centres to minimise risk of transmission of Covid-19 or curriculum practice and provision in general, please phone and ask to speak to the Head or Executive Head who will be happy to speak with you.

How will you support my child?

Our setting welcomes children with SEND and we are committed to working with parents and other professionals to provide good inclusive practice. Our Islington link Area SENCO provides us with support, advice and training re children with SEND.

Our SENCO has Qualified Teacher Status and attends termly SENCO forums run by the local authority. Our SENCO has termly SEN reviews with the Area SENCO and Educational Psychologist.

Two staff members have PECS level one training. All staff accessed introductory training on working with hearing impaired children. Staff have accessed ACT training with a speech and language therapist; ongoing peer coaching; allergy training with paediatric community nurses (Whittington Health). Staff are updated on SEND reforms at staff meetings.

We have experience of working with children with: speech and language delay; autistic spectrum disorder; hearing impairment; children who are partially sighted; children who are diagnosed as having global developmental delay.

We run two weekly language groups for children with speech and language delay one weekly targeted stay and play session for children with speech and language delay (via referral from multi-agency partners). We use Makaton to communicate with children.

Children have use of a sensory room and we ensure sensory overload is minimised in the settings environment.
