Family Saturdays is a unique service run by Islington parents for Islington parents and their Children with SEND.
Children learn, play and explore in a safe and understanding environment. Whilst staff take the children to the soft play and the sensory room, parents join a support group. There is then an opportunity to have lunch all together.
Once a month they have special activities such as yoga, capoeira, outings to the zoo, theatre or a picnic. They also organise workshops for parents, as well as inviting professionals such occupational therapists or speech and language therapists to offer support on certain topics.
The project aims to reduce the isolation for families of children with SEN, to improve relationships allowing parents and children to spend time together, establish networks between parents, provide opportunities for families to take part in activities which they can’t usually access. They support them to feel more confident and better able to take advantage of local services and opportunities.
