Islington Mind

Islington Mind promotes the preservation and safeguarding of mental health. We believe that everyone has a right to good mental health, and we aim to make a significant contribution to the recovery and quality of life of people who experience mental health problems. We also seek to support carers, tackle stigma and raise awareness of issues surrounding mental health. We offer immediate unrestricted access to community support and recovery pathways provided by our 4 resource centres across Islington. Our services are flexible and recovery-oriented, help people develop social networks, offer activities to nurture wellbeing and enhance skills, and provide structured, individualised support to enhance mental health self-management and independence. Our services aid recovery through active participation of service users in decisions that affect their daily life in the wider community.

Our Mental health Recovery Pathway (MHRP) supports 800 people every year. The pathway comprises two services: the Integrated Community Support (ICS) that offers day care support including activities, peer support groups and communal meals and the Structured Intervention Support (SIS) that offers individual psychosocial key working support, Reablement service (support for transition e.g. community reintegration following hospital admission) and talking therapy.

Our specialist services include an LGBTQ+ London-wide service, Outcome, the Freedom From Fear To Love project that supports LGBTQ+ asylum seekers and refugees, a Specialist Talking Therapies Clinic (STTC) that provides talking therapies to people who experience psychosis, to individuals from BME and from LGBTQ+ communities and to asylum seekers and refugees, a specialist Mental Health Welfare Benefits Clinic (WBC), a Community Recovery and Crisis Enablement Service (CRCE), supporting people to progress/maintain independence, a Women-Only Space, specialist BAMER groups and the Mother2Mother project that supports women caregivers of people with mental health problems.

We aim to:

  • Improve the quality of life of all Islington residents who experience mental distress or are concerned about friends and/or relatives experiencing distress.
  • Provide flexible community mental health services which meet local need.
  • Encourage and actively promote service user involvement in all aspects of the delivery and development of our services.
