The Bridge London Trust – Secondary School
One of three special schools and units in Islington providing support for children with particular special educational needs (SEN) and disabilities. This is to meet the Government requirement to include such children in mainstream schools wherever possible. This recognises that children learn in different ways and have different needs requiring short or long term support. Mainstream, local schools are the agreed and preferred option for educating nearly all Islington children, but we also understand that for a small number of children this may not be appropriate, at least not for the whole of their school career. To meet the broad range of children's needs and parential preferences there is a range of specialist school provision in Islington, all playing a very important role in providing support and training to the mainstream schools. The Bridge School has two sites. The Primary Department is at 251 Hungerford Road, N7. The Secondary Department is at 28 Carleton Road, London N7 0EQ. The Bridge School is not currently recognised as a 'Healthy School'.

It is usually necessary to carry out a detailed investigation to find out exactly what a child's special educational needs are and what extra help they may need before a special school place is considered. This process is called a Education, Health and Care assessment.
It is only necessary if the child's school or education setting cannot provide all the help that a child needs, or if a child is identified as having severe disabilities at a very early age.
A parent, school or education setting can ask the local authority to carry out a statutory assessment. The local authority will consider information about the child's progress at school, advice from other professionals who support them and the parents views.
