The Befriending Network
The Befriending Network helps improve the quality of life for people living at home who have been diagnosed with a terminal or life threatening illness. Their trained volunteers offer practical and emotional support through regular visits, which take place at times which suit the person being befriended. The nature of the visits can also vary according to the needs and wishes of the person being befriended and could range from a walk in the park, a visit to the pub, or company at a hospital appointment. It may be that the person being befriended simply wants someone to talk to to share the feelings and experiences that are occurring our volunteers are able to offer such support. Volunteers make a commitment to offer befriending for 12 months so the same volunteer will visit over this time allowing a relationship of real trust and depth to grow.
