Pre-school and school age SLT: The Speech and Language Therapy service is for children who have difficulties in developing speech, language and communication skills. We also work with children who have difficulties with eating, drinking and swallowing. Services are provided in a number of health centres, children’s centres and schools in Islington. The SLT service is part of a multi-disciplinary therapy service. We work collaboratively with parents, other health professionals and the child’s education team and/or wider team to support children to develop their speech, language, communication or swallowing skills.  See the timetables in downloads for drop-in sessions in Bright Start Central, Bright Start North, and Bright Start South, or speak to practioners at Bright Start Stay and Plays www.islington.gov.uk/brightstart.

The Michael Palin Centre:The Michael Palin Centre for Stammering provides a specialist service to children, young people and adults who stammer in Islington and Camden and a tertiary service for children from across the UK. Children are seen for assessment with their parents and therapy is offered individually or in groups, on a weekly or intensive course basis. The Centre also offers training in stammering therapy to speech and language therapists and runs a research programme. The Centre is run by NHS Whittington Health with the support of a charity, Action for Stammering Children.

Whittington Paediatric Feeding Service: The Whittington Hospital provides a specialist feeding service to both inpatients and outpatients. Our outpatient service sees children with a range of feeding difficulties; parental/child anxiety around mealtimes, aversive and behavioural feeding problems. We also run a joint Feeding Clinic with our dietitian for children with feeding difficulties impacting on their growth and nutrition.
