Quaker Social Action, QSA

Quaker Social Action, QSA exists to resource and support people living on low income in East London, including Islington.

The Homestore programme enables low income households to furnish their homes without getting into debt. The Get Set programme supports families to understand and take control of their finances. The programme works with parents in local schools, children's centres and community groups helping them to communicate better around money issues and better manage day to day issues like budgeting, debt and banking.

We’ve launched a new pilot project at Quaker Social Action called Cook Up – a kitchen space for people without one, based in Islington.

A bit about Cook Up

We are proud to introduce our new pilot project called Cook Up. Cook Up is a supportive cooking space for people without a kitchen.

Quaker Social Action has hired out a welcoming, fully equipped and socially distanced kitchen in south Islington (close to Old Street Station) where people in need of a kitchen space can book a slot to prepare meals of their choice.

Users of the kitchen will be able to batch cook meals to take away with them or eat what they have cooked alongside others. Cooks will be supported by a project manager with a background in nutrition who can advise on increasing the longevity of meals, healthier options, recipes and getting the most out of ingredients.

We hope this service will enable an increase in confidence for those who use it. Taking ownership in preparing meals for the week is an empowering act and we hope this will improve the wellbeing of users as well as motivate them in other areas of their lives.

We also have a sign up form on our website for clients: www.cookup.org.uk
