The Commercial Environmental Health Service works with businesses to ensure that all food and drink produced, stored or sold in Islington is safe to eat.
It does this by:
- carrying out regular inspections of food businesses at a frequency determined by risk
- promoting good standards of food safety management through the provision of advice, support and training to food business operators
- investigating food poisoning outbreaks associated with businesses operating in the borough
- investigating serious complaints about food purchased by consumers in Islington and complaints about food premises
- undertaking an annual food sampling programme
- taking appropriate action in response to food alerts issued by the Food Standards Agency
- taking appropriate enforcement action where a food business operator fails to meet the required legal standard
- carrying out a programme of activities to educate food handlers and consumers
