Barnard Adventure Playground
Parents/carers must pre register their children with Awesome to attend one of the playgrounds they manage (Register Now).
Barnard Adventure Playground isn’t just home to a dragon – we’ve got jaw-dropping canyon cliff rope swings too. Come and jump from a platform across a swamp of hungry crocodiles. Let your imagination loose!
Feeling bold? You can put on the performance of a lifetime to a crowd of adoring fans in our amphitheatre, or swing out of the limelight and onto a rope bridge if you want to test your strength and agility. Climbing tunnel I hear you say? Yes, we’ve got one of those. Climbing wall? Yes, we’ve got that too. A zip wire? Well of course we have a zip wire.
Perhaps you fancy a spot of cooking using our outdoor pizza oven, toasting marshmallows on an open fire, or growing some fruit and veg. Or maybe cooking up some old-fashioned mud pies is more your style.
And after all that, if you’ve still not had your fill, come and kick a ball or shoot some hoops in our sports area.
Play is free for 6 to 13 year olds and supervised by our Awesome playworkers – all you have to do is register and have fun. Oh, and Barnard Adventure Playground isn’t just for dragon fans – we have plenty of budding scientists, explorers, writers, artists, footballers and paleontologists too.
Our fantastic family play sessions are packed with fun things for the whole family to do. Supported by qualified playworkers, you’ll be introduced to new and exciting play experiences. All sessions are free and open to all families in Islington every Saturday from 11.30am to 1.30pm during school term time at Barnard, Cornwallis, King Henry’s Walk, Three Corners and Waterside Adventure Playgrounds. There’s no age restriction for children, as long as they’re accompanied by an adult – just be prepared to get messy! #FunComesFirst
Come along to our family play sessions in term time - Saturday 11:30am-13:30pm.

Barnard Adventure Playground is a short walk from Angel or King’s Cross station situated in the west corner next to Barnard Park, with views reaching over King’s Cross to the West End. The building at Barnard is light and airy, with skylights offering natural light, in a flexible and comfortable space. The ground floor hosts the main hall that overlooks the outside play space and amphitheatre. In addition to the main hall, there’s dual access to a basement with a small open space and kitchen. The kitchen has a serving hatch that opens out into the small open space. If you fancy yourself as an entertainer, our outdoor amphitheatre is the perfect place to showcase your talent.
Barnard is an ideal venue to hold your event, whether it’s a training day, band practice, a community meeting, workshop, fitness class, children’s party or outdoor performance.
