Approved Mental Health Professional Duty Team
This service is for people requiring assessment under the Mental Health Act for admission to a mental health hospital in Islington.
We help anyone whose difficulties are such that they require an assessment or treatment in hospital for a period of time. This could be either as an informal patient or, where necessary, under a section of the 1983 Mental Health Act.
Placing someone under a Section requires three professionals to take a joint decision, an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) and two registered doctors.
Anyone can call the AMHP service if they have serious concerns about any individual who they believe needs urgent admission to hospital.
