How will you support my child?

Our setting welcomes children with SEND and we are committed to working with parents and other professionals to provide good inclusive practice. Our Islington link Area SENCO provides us with support, advice and training regarding children with SEND. Our SENCO has attended courses such as child development, schemas and planning, language and communication, child development for children with SEND and SENCO forums. She has, however, registered her interest in attaining the SENCO level 4 qualification. Our SENCO has previously used PECS (picture exchange communication system) to support a child’s learning and development. This was in conjunction with a speech and language therapist who attended the setting to carry a session with a child. Our SENCO has a wide range of experience working with SEND children. This ranges from children with severe and complex needs, children that have later been diagnosed with autism and children with physical needs such as cerebral palsy. We are able to put short term plans in place for children to support their learning and development. We have very good links with speech and language therapists, health visiting team, social communication team, education psychologist and CAMHS. We have also had links in the past with physiotherapists and occupational therapist.
