Immigration and Nationality Directorate (IND)
We are responsible for processing all claims for asylum and asylum support made in the United Kingdom. We determine applications from asylum seekers, granting 5 years Leave to Remain (LTR) to those whose fears of persecution, integrating them swiftly into our society. IND also provides accommodation and subsistence support to destitute asylum seekers while we consider their claims. Removing people from the UK when their claims fail is one of our priorities. We share targets with the Department for Constitutional Affairs, the department with responsibility for the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal (AIT). Fast and efficient processing of appeals against our decisions is central to the integrity of the immigration control.
