Mother to Mother therapy group aims to provide emotional support and to empower mothers of children with mental health problems. The group is based at Islington Mind Women-Only Space in Crouch Hill and is run by a psychotherapist with experience and knowledge of working with carers of people with mental health problems. The therapist will facilitate the group with 1 or 2 other trainee psychotherapists. All therapists are supervised by Islington Mind’s director who is a clinical supervisor.
The group offers a safe space where mothers of people with mental health problems can explore their feelings and be empowered by each other. This space aims to share experiences and practical advice to successfully navigate crises and prevent situations from escalating.
The project also offers structured workshops exploring issues such as: understanding mental health diagnosis, understanding medications, understanding self-harm, eating disorders, how to support your child whilst maintaining your own wellbeing, exploring relaxation techniques, communication skills, etc. Members of the group will be offered access to activities aimed at improving wellbeing such as Yoga and Tai Chi.
