Healthy Start - vitamins and a prepaid card for food

Healthy Start is a Department of Health funded scheme which supports families with children under 4 years and pregnant women to eat well and get the vitamins they need for healthy development.  

If you are receiving income support, you may be able to receive a Healthy Start prepaid card. You could receive £8.50 per week if you have a baby aged under one year, £4.25 per week if you are pregnant, and £4.25 for each child aged under 4 years old. You can use this to buy cow’s milk, fresh and frozen vegetables,  and infant formula.

In Islington, ALL pregnant women, breastfeeding mums and children under 4 can receive FREE Healthy Start Vitamins, whether you are receiving income support or not. The vitamin tablets for women contain folic acid, vitamin C and D and drops for children contain vitamins A, C and D.

You can pick up vitamins at all 16 children's centres, as well as Finsbury Health Centre, Pine St, London EC1R 0L and other health centres in Islington.

Who is this service for?
Vitamin tablets are available for women trying to get pregnant, pregnant women, and mums up to 1 year after having a baby living in Islington. Vitamin drops are for children aged 4 or under living in Islington. Pregnant women and families with a child under 4 years, and who are also receiving income support, may also be able to get a Healthy Start prepaid card.
