Minik Kardes @ The Factory Children's Centre is recognised as an Islington Healthy Early Years setting and has received the Healthy Early Years London Bronze Award.
Islington Healthy Early Years works with settings to ensure a good level of support for the health and wellbeing of children under five and their families. Healthy Early Years London (HEYL) is an awards scheme funded by the Mayor of London which recognises Early Years settings’ achievements in child health, wellbeing and development. - How will you support my child?
Our setting welcomes children with SEND and we are committed to working with parents and other professionals to provide good inclusive practice. Our Islington link Area SENCO provides us with support, advice and training re children with SEND.
Our SENCO holds Early Years Professional status. She has a vast amount of experience with children with a range of special educational needs. Our SENCO is highly knowledgeable and her skills and training include; Autism awareness, supporting social- communication and language difficulties, global developmental delay, challenging behaviour, Trauma, Eating difficulties and Emotional needs. Our SENCO follows an integrated approach working with professionals, initiating meetings, forming Short Term Plans and applying for Educational Health Care Plans.
Our staff team are highly skilled and experienced in working with children who have a range of special educational needs. All our staff have been trained in the Solihull Approach, Positive Behaviour Management and ACT, a specific speech and language course to enhance high quality interactions with children. Lead persons from under 3’s and over 3’s have attended training related to Autism, Language groups, Makaton, supporting communication and language development, sound development, supporting children with Trauma, Attention Builders and Sensory circuits.
Staff knowledge and experience make them qualified to identify children’s needs early and work closely with Parents and other professionals to ensure their needs are effectively met. We offer an inclusive environment and curriculum for all children to meet their best potential outcome for their lives.
We provide high quality support for children with SEND. We deliver daily interventions including small language groups for children with speech and language delay, Attention Builders and Sensory circuits. If required, we apply for SEND funding for individual children to ensure these interventions can happen effectively to meet their individual needs.
We also have regular Short Term planning meetings for children with identified SEND or rising concerns to plan for individualised support working with key professionals, families, and key workers.
We are working in collaboration with specialist partners in education, health, and social care, making relevant referrals where required.
