A green oasis in the midst of streets, estates and inner city bustle, Culpeper Community Garden is one of the most valued green public spaces in Islington
Culpeper is a beautiful public open space which is both a city park and an environmental community project. Managed by and for local people, it is an award winning project where people from all walks of life come together to appreciate and enhance their environment.
Surrounded by roads and a busy shopping area, Culpeper is often described as ‘an oasis’. Children and adults alike love to explore the pathways, ponds and wealth of plants. It’s a perfect place for a picnic or simply for relaxing.
We welcome visits from members of the public during opening times. Also, everyone is welcome to become a member of our community garden and enjoy the benefits that has to offer. This includes outings, events, and a say in how we do what we do.
We provide access to an award-winning garden for all members of the public seven days a week during daylight hours.
Anyone can become a member of the garden (£20 per year) and enjoy a range of benefits such as outings, workshops, celebrations, and reduced fees to hire the space for events. Being a member is also an invitation to help support the garden and contribute to its governance, activities, and continued success of a 40 year old charity run ‘by and for local people’.
There is the opportunity to become a plot holder and tend one of the 50 plots around the garden, which are mostly designated for ornamental growing.
In the garden and making use of our community resource centre, we deliver activities most days, which are either specifically for people with additional needs or fully inclusive and welcoming of all. Our current activities are:
