- How will you support my child?
Our setting welcomes children with SEND and we are committed to working with parents and other professionals to provide good inclusive practice. Our Islington link Area SENCO provides us with support, advice and training re children with SEND.
Our SENCOs have the following qualifications: Janet Abrahams: BA Education (Early Childhood Studies) Grade B Makaton user, Exploring Child Development in Children with SEND, SENCO Role & SEN Procedures, Attention Autism; Tina Hammond: NNEB; BA (Hons) Education Studies; MA Narrative Research; QTS; Attention Autism/PECS training/Makaton
Both SENCOs have accessed training in PECS, Visual Cues, Makaton and Supporting Language and Communication. We have the capacity and ability to run small and large language groups for all children in the setting to promote and develop communication, speech and language.
We have several years’ experience of working with children's severe and complex needs. Tina has led several Early Years teams within mainstream schools supporting children with complex needs and promoting inclusivity.
Our planning incorporates differentiated support for all our children requiring a different approach in accessing the EYFS curriculum through assessing and accommodating their individual learning styles
In place daily: attention and listening activities; phonics sounds and letters activities. Speech and language small groups activities, will restart after reassessing the Covid-19 risk assessment.
We have formed good links with our families' individual external professional supports, as well as professionals within the borough’s Local Offer, such as speech and language therapists, Health Visiting Team, Area SENCO, Social Communication Team, Educational Psychologists, Family Support Teams and Social Workers.
