Help to get out and about

Staying as active as you can and connecting with other people are an essential part of maintaining good health and well-being.

It’s not always easy to do this on your own. Here are someof the ways you can access help and support to get out and about in the community.

Getting support

If you are able to move around by yourself but have lost your confidence to go out you may benefit from some rehabilitation, advice or walking aids to help you regain your confidence.

Types of support include a falls clinic, equipment, reablement support to help you go out, rehabilitation or advice from an occupational therapist, physiotherapist or sensory rehabilitation worker.

There are also voluntary agencies who can arrange for a volunteer to take you out. Or you could attend a day centre that can arrange transport to get you there.

You can find details in Transport and Supported Leisure Actvities.

London Transport

You can get a wide range of information about accessible transport from Transport for London.

They provide information about step free access, accessible guides and maps, adapted facilities, help available from staff and can also provide a ‘travel mentor’ for people to learn new routes.
