How will you support my child?

Our SENCO has a degree in Early Childhood Studies BA Honours with Practitioner Status. Our SENCO has expressed an interest in completing training that leads to a qualification relating to early identification and supporting children with SEND and PECS (picture exchange communication system).

Training accessed by our SENCO is disseminated to our staff team. Our SENCO attends SENCO Forums and has attended training on: SEN support in Early Years; writing short term support plans writing information referrals; requesting EHC plans. Our SENCO is supported by our Area SENCO and the Early Years Inclusion Team.

We have experience of working with children with a range of special educational needs. Our nursery welcomes children with SEND and we are committed to working with parents and other professionals to provide good inclusive practice.

Our SENCO, in partnership with parents and outside professionals, puts short-term plans in place for children to support their learning and development. These are followed by all of our staff team for continuity of care, learning and development. Our nursery has good links with speech and language therapists, health visiting team, social communication team, education psychologist and CAMHS.

We signpost parents to local children's centres for Little Leaps and Chatterpillars sessions. We arrange for a speech and language therapist and child psychologist to attend our nursery to support the staff and parents in working with children. We have access to the children's centre speech and language therapist and have excellent links with the Family Health Advisor who visits us termly.
